what can I do now to prepare for fall

Hi! I planted some things back in March for a summer harvest. I made some mistakes and learned quite a bit and had a lot of fun. Some were planted right in the ground, others in containers. I've got some tomatoes, several kinds of peppers, tons of basil, a thriving watermelon plant that should start producing fruit really soon, huge squash vines, and some strawberries. Not too bad for my first attempt.

So, is it too early to start thinking about my fall garden? I figured I should buy my seeds now while they're still available, but can I already start things indoors for transplants? Also, where can I find edamame seeds? Should I order them online? What kinds of things have you had most luck with in a fall garden? I'm only looking for things I can eat, but I'm really open to eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables! Thanks!

I'm getting ready for Fall by making a list of all the things I wish I had planted in Spring but didn't. Now, I'm afraid it's just too hot in my zone so I'll just make lots of notes so I can get it done in the Fall!

The Fall vegetable garden is by far the best!

You can start seeds of tomatoes at the end of June- just right around the corner. I start them in pots or styrofoam cups. They will be ready to put out in August. You just need to remember to protect them from the hot sun. Also, peppers, if you need them. Ours go on and on for years, sometimes, so you might not need more of what you have. I am always looking for a different or unusual variety.

Things like broccoli, cabbages, cauliflower, beans, peas, cucumber...seed directly in the ground. I wait until August, or even September to put them in. The things that like cool weather can go in later. Things like beans, get them going!

Good luck with your garden. I hope you have a great fall garden!

Seeds of Change has edamame seeds but I've never tried them. In my region, Mobile, AL we're already preparing for the Fall garden by sowing seeds indoors. The peas will go in this month as well.

Don't forget Carrots, Greens and Lettuce. For me Butter Crunch is great. Large heads, but makes about enough to searve two people, great taste, not like you may find in the stores. Onions, Herbs, turnips etc. Nothing beats a try. That is what makes gardening so much fun. For me they best gardens down here are in the fall-winter. Sounds like you are doing a lot of things right, keep up the good work.
