Planting for the Fall (August and September)

I'm in zone 9a (NW Houston) and I'm going to take my first crack at a fall vegetable garden this year. I'm looking for general advice on what does well in our winter(ish) weather here. Success stories, failures, etc..

I've read through TAMU that you can actually plant a second round of cucumbers in August, along with summer squash? How are the yields on this? Has anyone tried it?

My list for August planting:

Bush Beans

Cucumber

Zucchini

Beets (late Aug)

September:

Broccoli

Chard

Kale

Turnip

Kohlrabi

Spinach (late Sep)

Any and all feedback welcome. Need some tips!!! Thanks
