Plant suggestions for 'Gumbo' soil.

| Is there anything I can plant in "gumbo" soil that will actually be happy in it? There must be something, with all the natural vegetation around here.
I need ideas. I want to add some personality to my existing landscaping, which mostly looks like it came with the house.
I'm hoping to keep things as low-maintenance as possible by picking things that work well with my soil and climate. |

| Daylilies, ferns, heirloom roses, salvia, hardy (perennial) hibiscus, rudbeckias are pretty much 'bulletproof' plants that'll do well in gumbo soil. |
