Plant suggestions for 'Gumbo' soil.

Is there anything I can plant in "gumbo" soil that will actually be happy in it? There must be something, with all the natural vegetation around here.

I need ideas. I want to add some personality to my existing landscaping, which mostly looks like it came with the house.

I'm hoping to keep things as low-maintenance as possible by picking things that work well with my soil and climate.

native prairie plants depending on what part of texas you are in.

Daylilies, ferns, heirloom roses, salvia, hardy (perennial) hibiscus, rudbeckias are pretty much 'bulletproof' plants that'll do well in gumbo soil.
