A vine with tiny white flowers now--in Aug.

Just saw a lot of these on the edges of peoples' yards. They are growing into other shrubs/trees and have a fuzzy look to them. On close examination, the flowers have 4 tiny petals with a fringe center. The leaves are oval shaped. This is in the Ocean Springs, Ms area. Some are on vacant lots. I would love to plant some but need to know more about it first. Can't find in any of my plant books. Can anyone help?

Nevermind. I think I found it--Sweet Autumn Clematis! Beautiful but may be too invasive in my yard.

Yeah--pretty but it'll eat everything. And you'll be pulling it for years. Guess how I know!

It is a shame but it seems lots of plants I like turn out to be invasive. I once planted Cypress Vine!! It was such a cute little delicate plant. Little did I know! I learned my lesson and now investigate before I plant.

Yeah, but cypress vine is delicately invasive and the hummers love it.

But cypress vine will popup everywhere--your lawn, vegetable garden and anywhere in between. I pulled up as much as I could. Just when you think you got it all --it pops up all over again! I finally moved. There's lots of plants that the hummers love that don't cause havoc. Speaking of hummers, I've had over 20 zooming all over my backyard until a couple of days ago when we had sone cooler temps (60 degrees). There's still about 8 of them here.

I guess it's how you look at it. They don't appear until the summer garden is over and it's easy enough to pull out the seedlings if you don't want them to grow and bloom for the fall. When they seed in the lawn they get cut back every time someone mows.

I grow the Sweet Autumn clematis, and have for about 5 years. It is still in the same spot, has not traveled anywhere.

The secret to keeping it in check is to cut it way back, like to the ground in very early spring. That does away with all the ugly stuff underneath too, that will accumulate if you don't cut it back.

I love this vine. It is pretty when things are very tough in our climate. I have never had it reseed, and it has never offered to layer where it hit the ground. Bummer.....
