Ideas for unusual winter plants

Hi,
I'm in Houston and wondering if anyone has had any luck with more unusual winter flowers. I was thinking about trying to get mail order summer plants from colder climates. We've had such mild weather the last few winters I thought it might be a fun experiment. I was thinking about English primroses. Any other ideas?
Thanks |

The main problem is that when the days are shorter most plants are stimulated to go dormant. There is always quite a bit blooming here on the island that time of year. The amaryllis, night-blooming cereus, salvia, thevetia peruviana, brugmansia, ruellia, bird of paradise... Tally HO! |
