Does anyone know when type of bug likes hackberry trees and leaves a sticky black mess on everything??

The black is most likely a fungi called soot mold. It grows on honeydew produced by sucking insects like aphids or scales

Thanks for your reply. It probably is and it's on everything. My tomatoes are sick and they probably won't make. I'm happy it's the fall growing season and can plant new vegies.
