Composting flower beds

Posted by char35 Zone 9 Houston (My Page) on

I'm going to work in some compost to my existing flower beds. A friend has composted horse manure that I can have. I've heard that it is good in gardens. Any contrary opinions?
Should I pre mix it with garden top soil before putting it in the beds? If so, what proportions? Do I have to wait any period of time before planting new plants after addding the compost?
Thanks for your help.

I wouldn't. Horses don't break down seeds in their digestive systems and you will be full of weeds next year.

Check where the horses are. If there is any bermuda
grass, the seed kill you next summer. I made that
mistake in my vegie garden once.
