Composting flower beds

I'm going to work in some compost to my existing flower beds. A friend has composted horse manure that I can have. I've heard that it is good in gardens. Any contrary opinions?
Should I pre mix it with garden top soil before putting it in the beds? If so, what proportions? Do I have to wait any period of time before planting new plants after addding the compost?
Thanks for your help. |

| I wouldn't. Horses don't break down seeds in their digestive systems and you will be full of weeds next year. |

Check where the horses are. If there is any bermuda grass, the seed kill you next summer. I made that mistake in my vegie garden once. |
