Bearded Iris 'sprouting' in december?

Hello,
I planted my bearded iris in October and I noticed yesterday that a green spike is already coming of the ground. I live in Cypress Texas which is about 45 minutes north of Houston on 290. We are expecting a possible light freeze tonight, should I cover the spike? Thanks in advance!

How did they do? Did your irises survive the frost?
I have bearded irises here in the Panhandle and they are sprouting too. We've had a couple of frosty nights here and I really did not do anything to mine and they look fine.
Hope yours are OK.

I have never had a problem with them they seem to be able to take care of themselves in this area as they grow in Colorado without any problem as well as Michigan where I have lived and enjoyed them. Mine keep their leaves all year both here and on the Coast. It seems their only problem is wet roots as they will rot without good drainage.
