philo selloum under a magnolia?

Why is it that I can't recall ever seeing a philo selloum planted under a magnolia tree? Is the philo not able to compete with the magnolia roots?

RE: philo selloum under a magnolia?

I don't know but I have 5 huge magnolias and nothing grows well under them. It may be a combination of little sunlight reaching the ground and the leaves seem to have a natural chemical that may hamper competition.
