Smelly jars

Hi - some of my jars that I want to reuse still smells a bit of what was in there previously even though I ran it through the dishwasher. Any special trick to get rid of these smells or should I just run it through the dishwasher until it's gone ?

I would run it again in the dishwasher with a bit of baking soda in the wash. I sometimes use about a 1/4 cup of baking soda in my dishwasher if I am washing plastic containers like tupperware. A friend of mine uses 1/2 cup of vinegar in the second wash. We both get the same results.

Another option is to use a strong bleach soloution, just dip the smelly jars in it for a few minutes, and then back to the dishwasher for them. Vinegar may be fine, used in the dishwasher if you have very hard water in your area. I also use the Jet Dry liquid product before the final rinses, as mine has a dispenser inside the door that injects the Jet Dry when its needed.

My mom used to sell tupperware many years ago, she said to remove bad odors in plastic, to crumble up newspaper and put it in the container, cover and wait a day or two. I've done it with jars, too. Shammie
