The 1750 came in 5 different models but it was basically called the 17 quart model and is no longer made. Went out of production (if i recall correctly) about 20 years ago. Some parts are still available for it and yes, it could be converted to the 3 piece weight set. But it is old and used and in unknown condition. Could be warped, damaged/inaccurate gauge, need new seals and rings, etc. so you could easily put $40-50 into it after purchase. If you get it examine it very carefully and try to get refund rights.

The new 16 quart, even without the gauge, is a better deal IMO. But the gauge AND weight is great to have and the 16 quart with both is available for only a few dollars more (link below) than the weight-only model sold by Walmart.

Then there are the issues of the 16 qt. vs. 23 qt. which we have discussed here often. Personally I wouldn't buy any except the 23 qt. given its advantages. I'd even buy a used in-good-condition 23 qt. over a new 16 qt. But that all depends on how much pressure canning you plan to do.

Thanks Dave. Since I'm not sure my glass-top range can even maintain pressure (I can't maintain a steady simmer when making stock) I want something either cheap, or returnable, or both. I'd like the 23 qt (was looking when it was on sale last month) but I'm afraid the bigger it is the harder it will be to maintain pressure.
