The local grocery was selling something they labelled sweet lemons yesterday. That was the only name the produce clerks knew for the lemons. They did verify that the lemons tasted sweet. Does anyone know what these lemons were?

Here is a great discussion about all the different varieties of lemons. Just scroll down the alpha listing on the page to Sweet Lemons for details. They are actually C. limetta Risso (limettas) Dave

Purdue is the best site ever for anything horticultural. I thought it was interesting that Purdue says they're "insipid" and lacking in commercial value. I assume they mean large-scale. One thing I can't figure out is whether they're actually low-acid or merely higher in sugar. Chowhound has an interesting discussion on the uses for sweet lemons (limited) and on the differences between sweet lemons and other varieties such as Meyer. Carol
