Hi Jaybob - this is a question that comes up often over on the Growing Tomatoes forum here at GW. But the answer is always the same - it isn't possible to identify them simply because there are 100s, if not thousands, of possibilities. Those fruit could literally be any one of the over 2000 red/pink beefsteak types of tomato.

The best anyone can do is if you give them 3-4 names to choose from is tell you "the odds are it is ___________".

I think that the first one is a pink brandywine, and the other is a Cherokee purple, or possibly a black krim.

This is what I planted this year.

San marzano
Mortgage lifter
Cherokee purple
Black krim
Marglobe
Rutgers
Roma
Jersey giant
Amish paste
Brandywine

The second one doesn't look purple enough to be either Black Krim or Cherokee Purple, but maybe it is just the camera shot.

I doubt they're San Marzano, Roma or Amish Paste, but cutting into each should answer that question.

I agree the picture doesn't look like Cherokee Purple or Krim. Those are a very dark purple verging on black and the picture doesn't show that.

That leaves 4 varieties, so at least the possibilities have been narrowed down.

I supposed seeds could have gotten mixed from the source, I've read some posts here about that happening. I'll let you know how they taste and post a pick of the inside!
