The OXO scale is $50 but well worth the money. The display is easy to read because of the back-light. A nice feature is that the display can be pulled away from the base. This is helpful if you have a big pan full of ingredients to weigh. Instead of trying to peek around the pan you can just pull the display out to read the weight. The platform is removable which is nice for cleaning.

The $50 model holds 11 pounds vs the $30 model which only holds 5lbs.

I think MyWeigh scales are the best value around. They are less well-known, but I've used them for years and I feel they offer more for the money.

For example, the 7001DX has a 15+ pound capacity and weighs in increments of 1 gram. It will weigh grams, kilograms, ounces or pounds and has a tare feature. It costs around $35.00.

I first learned about MyWeigh from the bakers at King Arthur Flour (old Baking Circle forum) but love its higher capacity for canning as well.

Funny story - I just bought the Escali scale. It has a 15 lb capacity, and warns to not put heavier things on the scale.

Set it to weigh in ounces, then proceeded to use it to divide cake batter into to two pans. I put on the pan and it read 7.somthing, started to add batter and it went near 15 with only a few scoops, and I freaked and took it off the scale. Then I was disapointed thinking 15 lbs wasn't going to be near enough capacity.

Silly me - I forgot it was set to OUNCES, so I could have gone up to 240! Don't know where my brain was, as common sense would have told me I didn't have 15 lbs of cake batter (That would be one large cake LOL!)

OK, I think I've narrowed it down to two - the Escali Arti glass digital scale and the myweigh 7001 DX. Any thoughts on one over the other? Thanks!
