Weird New Use for Citric Acid

malna

I use 2 tsp. of citric acid in the rinse cycle of my dishwasher (we have really hard water with lots of iron and lime).

I save the hot acidified rinse water and usually dump it down the bathroom drains to keep them clean. This morning, I happened to have an old canning jar with a label on it that would not come off (you know the ones), and tossed it into the bucket of rinse water to soak before I washed it.

The label came right off! It has been on there for at least five years through countless scrubbings and dishwasher loads. It worked for other stubborn adhesive labels, too.
