Shagbark Hickory Nuts

Hi,
I have what I believe a shagbark hickory tree in my front yard. last night we had a storm and this morning I have hundreds of green nuts all over my lawn. I read up a bit on harvesting these nuts but am still a little confused. Should I remove the outer green layer or wait until they turn brown?

Thanks
Brian

Here you go. A previous discussion about them from folks that use them that should answer your questions I think.
