 o
Pressure Canner Safe?

I have a weighted gauge canner whose bottom was slightly bowed out - don't ask. Hubby was able to flatten it again....does anyone see any reason it wouldn't be safe?

No real way to know with out testing it. I'd sure give it a test run with just water first - run it up to pressue, look for leaks, make sure vent and all works ok - and make sure everything works before wasting any food in it.

I have one that's bottom is rounded, still seals, but makes it interesting to fill.

My main concern is if it will affect it's ability to keep pressure accurately......but then with a weighted gauge it has to - right? Dave, thanks for the suggestion, I should try it out with just jars of water.

I haven't had any problem with jars not sealing in it.

That would be my main concern too. So I'd run it for awhile to see if it does. In theory the weight should keep it ok by they depend on being centered on the vent too so I'd want to test it first. Sealing the jars wouldn't be an concern but pressure fluctuations could be.
