| Don't boil the lids, have them in slightly simmering water only. They would be best in a seperate pan with a small lid rack to help hold a dozen. If the lids get boiled for a long time the silicone sealing compound can break down and cause a poor seal. I just dry off the unused lids and use the next time. Never store a sterilzed jar as its not going to help if you sterilize and seal it, becuase you lose the lid and have to use a new one. Sterilizing jars today isn't usually necessary for high acid foods, if the jars are packed with boiling contents and are BWB. I clean my jars in a quick dishwasher cycle prior to filling. |
