A great sale on jars.....

Soooo...... I had gotten a rain check on a sale for caning jars at a local hardware store. Every store in town, and nearby towns, are completely sold out of canning supplies. (However, there's a great selection of artificial Christmas trees right now.......). Today, I walked out of the hardware store with ten brand spanking new cases of Ball quart jars at $7.99 a piece. Yep. Every customer, and employee, looked at me like I'm nuts. That's okay. Guess who WON'T be buying anything with "Ragu" or "Libbys" or "DelMonte" on the label this winter???! :-) :-) :-)

I am with you, ellen. As fast I get my hands free I am canning.
I found a store coupon at united grocers in their "savings essentials" back to school booklet. It is for $2.00 off a case of ball jars. Last week they had the case on sale for 6.99 - 2.00 coupon =4.99!
The coupon is good until 8/30 so I hope that they go on sale again after payday, regular price is 7.99.
The hunt for cheap jars...

Wow! Good deals. Our local chain (Bi-Mart) has cases of pints and half-pints for $6.99 right now. That's about the best I've seen this summer around here.

There was a ball coupon for $1.50 off if you bought a jar of their pectin, but I don't need any more pectin!

Because I'm new and precautious to pressure canning, I wanted to get off to the best start with brand new jars. I have some jars that have been handed down to me from 3 or more decades ago and I use them for water bath canning. I'm sure I'll get over the anxiety with pressure canning eventually. I will have enough canned basic vegetables to get through half a year without having to buy from the store. Next year I will buy the same amount of jars I did this year and will have enough for an entire year. I do not work in the winter time. My business is a seasonal one. I can definitely attest to the money a person saves by doing canning. The jars are merely an investment. I absolutely love spending every free moment of my summer doing this! <3
