Can you freeze pears?

I'm not set up at this time for canning. I mostly freeze my sauces and veges with a foodsaver.

My neighbor is in Europe and his pears are all getting close to ripe (did a search and learned that you want to pick them while still pretty hard, then ripen them)

Is there a way to freeze them for using at a later date, for pear butter or pies or something?

Could I blanch them and freeze in a simple syrup or something like that?

I hate to see them go to waste! Thanks, Nancy
