Finished product doesn't look right

Hi,

I just canned my very first batch ever and it doesn't look like it should. I did tomatoes and added the lemon juice, salt, and tomatoes leaving about a half inch of space at the top. Everything looked really good before the canning process, but after there's separation and about 2 inches of clear liquid.

What happened and are my tomatoes ruined?

That's totally normal for home-canned tomatoes. It's a natural enzymatic reaction and only affects appearance. They're fine to use.

There will be some settling of the tomatoes as they sit on the shelves.

Perfectly normal and totally safe. They will settle.
