| I have such a glut of pears I thought I would try canning pear juice to use in future for canning light fruit rather than using a syrup solution. My question is: When my husband juices for me he just puts the whole pear through including skin. Now there is a lot of pulp that comes out the other end but is it safe to can this juice with the peel juiced in with the fruit? It is a greenish color but tastes great. Should I heat it, and just can it? or should I strain it after heating and then can?
I have thought about peeling them all and then putting them through the juicer but that defeats the ease of having a juicer and I could just as well put them in a stock pot and add a little water adn then strain. Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you for any of your responses |

| I'd do the same thing we do with making apple juice - refrigerate juice for 24 to 48 hours to allow separation then carefully pour off clear liquid and discard sediment. Strain clear liquid through a paper coffee filter or double layers of damp cheesecloth. per NCHFP Dave |

| Dear orphanannie, Yes, it is ok to put the pear in the Breville juicer with the skin. That's really the purpose of a juicer, it can handle things such as skin, seeds and spit them out through the pulp ejection chamber. However, you need to realize that juicers are not ideal to juice solely fruits. That is to say, it can be partially harmful to you to juice pure fruits. That's because you are getting a sugar shock. Fruits normally have fiber in the form of the skin to balance out the large amounts of sugar. If you juice your fruits you eliminate the fiber and have only the sugar part. It is recommended that you cut up the pear and put it into a blender or just eat your pear whole. This will help your body digest the sugar little by little. | I prefer to strain my juice thru cheesecloth or cotton before I can the juice. I had never heard of Breville juicer. |
