All jar must be sanitized but not sterilized if they will be in a HWB or pressure canner for more then 10 minutes. I wash my jars with dish soap, a bit of bleach and a jar brush and then place in my dishwasher. The jars stay in the washer until ready to use. I do sterilize my jam jars and lids even though they get HWB'd. All other lids are washed and rinsed only. |

| The rings only need a rinse if used, none if new. The lids need a hot water soak, not boiling. The jars can be sanitized in a dishwasher in a simple rinse cycle. As mentioned, there is no need to sterilize if they are to be processed with a hot contents. |

| There is no need to sterilize if they are processed in a boiling water bath at least 10 minutes, I know a lot of recipes call for 5 minutes and that's not enough, apparently. I wash mine in the dishwasher and use them hot, directly from the machine. I don't sterilize, and I simmer my lids already placed inside the rings so they are easier to grab with a pair of tongs.
