Wide mouth half pints, what's the deal?

Are they no longer making the wide mouthed half pint jars? I loved them for salsa and pepper jelly and relishes, etc. Could serve right out of the jar! Great for stacking too. Now I can't find them except for "special" sizes which are running 6 bucks for FOUR. Or I saw 12 for 19 bucks on Amazon, which is more than a buck a jar. Kinda negates the whole point of canning. I am NOT happy!

L, they are still available here in Oregon. Maybe your store is just not carrying them.
Can you check ACE Hardware's website and have them shipped (free to store). Or a Walmart maybe (I try to avoid, but free shipping is free shipping!).

I just bought another case this weekend. They are the Kerr brand, not Ball. I see Ball only lists the Kerr ones on their website.

BTW, they were $10.69 a case (True Value Hardware).

I didn't even know that size/shape was available until about a year ago when I was looking on the ACE website. I knew about the other more expensive version, but not the straight sided. I like the straight sided version a lot better. Ever since, I've seen them on TV on just about every other cooking show I watch. And in ads sometimes, just the jars with stuff in them, not an ad for the jars.

I fear Ball is getting into supplying crafters too much and might let their quality slide as a result. Maybe not. I hope not.

Hey LPink,

Come to think of it, I haven't seen them this year in my neck of the woods (upstate / central NY). It could be that they don't sell in my area, so places don't carry them. In bigger cities or bigger farming areas they may carry them.

The only ones I've seen are Kerr. I buy them whenever I see them which isn't often.

Consider your investment as a business expense. The longer you use it,,the cheaper it gets. If you use them once, it;s expensive. If you use them 30 years, it's a bargain..No Rocket Science involved.

The Walmart Mainstay 1/2 pint jars are the wide-mouth style. Personally I don't use them, I'm sure they would be great for pickles and salsa. I just don't use the 1/2 pints for those.

They are all over here in Texas, I even saw a one gallon Ball jar.

Hi, Kerr wide mouth are stocked at Walmart.com. They will send to your nearest Walmart free.
These pints are also at a Walmart near me, but not in every Walmart - it depends on the manager. I go to a specific Walmart that carries every canning item imaginable. Hope this helps.
Canning is increasing immensely in popularity.

I found mine (Kerr brand) at Sam's Club for $6.98 for a case (12 jars). It is the cheapest that I have ever found them. I was very excited. They also had Kerr wide mouth pint jars and gallon Ball jars.

You might also try Ace hardware either the store or online if you don't have the store nearby.

I like using this size for storing small things, powders, or home made instant oatmeal. Handy not to have to dig around in the corners of the Ball special edition half pints.
