Nothing to do but wash the grapes. Stems can stay on if you want. Just cut up the apples some and that is all.

Thanks for reply. And then after it goes through steamer, do you put it through cheesecloth, or is it done?

I remove stems. I have found in some cases it causes a "grassy" flavor, so I just got in the habit with all product.

The pure juice will be in the bottom separate from the pulp, which is usually good only for compost. (Just how I see it.)

I don't know which brand you purchased, but I have and use a Mehu-Liisa from Finland. I think they have a great instruction booklet. It's available to download onto your computer (or print out) in a .pdf format. You might want to have it for further information or to give you other ideas.

thanks for quick replies. I just looked at the mehu-llisa juicer instruction book mentioned above, and it contains lots of answers to my newbie questions. I had bought a less expensive steamer juicer, and it came with minimal help. I'm already thrilled with the grape juice I made today!! YAY! now on to apple juice!

I was wondering and curious about the term " Juicer" and "steamer". So I did some search.

The idea sounds interesting to me but the bottom line is not so much attractive. in this device the fruits are cooked. By cooking the fruits fall apart and juice runs through the strainer. You can get the same effect by just heating in a double boiler and then straining through a fine mesh strainer or a cheese cloth type of bag. Or by blending and then straining you can get fresh UNCOOKED fruit juice and then do whatever want with it.

But perhaps this (juicer steamer) has some advantages for canning JUST THE JUICE with least amount of work.
