Applesauce question

I was canning the ball apple slices in the extra light syrup (1 1/4 cup sugar and 5.5 cups water) well my apples turned to mush. Now I'm making applesauce, added some blueberries and 4 T lemon juice. Is it safe to can with the syrup sauce?

Thanks! Have you ever had any luck in canning sliced apples where they don't turn mushy??

It depends on the variety of Apple. I think it was Galas that I had the best luck with holding their shape.

But - have been in the same position as you. Did a batch of quart of can't remember variety - they came out of the canner looking like mush. So I opened all the jars, dumped them in a pot and made applesauce, all the while cursing the amount of time I spent peeling and slicing apples.
