| I hand chopped the 5 large zukes and peppers for the Ball Zuke relish recipe. It took for ever.
I used an old Robo processor ( predessor to Cuisnart) for the cucumbers in the Sweet Relish recipe. But my one of two blade only "shreds it>. I like the finely chopped look better like in commercial pickle relishes... Thanks Jean |

| I use the food processor and pulse until desired size. I like mine finely chopped too! It's never quite as perfect as storebought in uniformity, but sure beats hand chopping into tiny pieses! Deanna |

| I use an "onion chopper". Basically it's a grate of blades that you set your veggies on and they get pushed through (and therefore finely chopped) when you push down on the lid. I made 4 batches of Annie's Salsa this summer and that chopper was indispensable. I tried using my food processor for relish -- I just hated the way all the pieces looked. Some chopped, some shredded...not pretty at all. :) This chopper thing really worked well. The link below is a description of the exact one I use. I got it cheaper at my local hardware store! |

| decemberdaisy, your onion chopper looks like a great idea. Looking at it, it struck me that I may be able to use my fry press (below) for chopping onions. If it doesn't work well I may invest in your suggestion. Until now I've been using the food processor like Deanna. |

| I don't chop for relish, I grind. Meat grinder using the coarse blade. Dave |

| It depends on the relish. For a ground relish, I use my KitchenAid grinder. But chopped relishes I always do by hand. I know it's a pain but not only is the appearance much better (to me) but the veggies don't lose all the juice, which is what happens with a machine-chopped product. Carol |

| I ended up using a thrift store old ( looks new still has box and papers between "slicers or CONES and owners manual.. it is by Foodco appliance corp. by Kitchen-Quip inc.... copyright 1961.....) vaccums to countertop worked well did not slide etc. i used the stringer cone It still shredded but not a whole not of juice like my old food processor did . I like the looks of last night batches better cause i laboriously hand chopped the two big bowls.... Thanks better get back to my relishes... Thanks jean |
