Can't help with a pie recipe although I'm sure some exist but I assume you know you can use them in any tomatillo (or even tomato) recipes? Down south many use them as a sub for Gooseberries too so any Gooseberry Jam recipe would work.

For jam just use the Spiced Tomato Jam recipe or the Pineapple jam recipe at NCHFP and use 1/2 pineapple and 1/2 GC. The flavors blend really well (if you like pineapple).

If you like chocolate check out the link below for Chocolate Dipped Ground Cherries. Think I'll give it a try.

PS: and if you are over run with them they freeze whole very well.

Here is a link that might be useful: Ground Cherry recipe

I grew them 2 years ago. I would try to pick them daily and add them to our daily salad. When I got overrun, I ended up making a puree similar to applesauce and canned that. I then use it in baking similar to using applesauce. DD loves ground cherry oatmeal muffins.

I have a recipe for pie and jam. Both came out just wonderfully. My husband said its his favorite pie now. you. I just made the pie two days ago.

3cups ground cherries
1/2 cup sugar.......and i added a 1/4 cup brown as well.
1/4 tsp cinnamon
3 Tbls flour...... I used heaping Tbls and it set up perfectly
3 Tbls water
Mix all together and pour into pie crust....and bake on 400 for 20 min and reduce heat to 300 for another 35 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Just be sure to keep an eye on it so it does not burn. I put lattice work on the top as well.
