My husband and I planted Italian Zucchini this year, and only got 1 fruit out of it. This monstrosity measures 27.5", but we don't know what variety it is. Can anyone help? and how do you cook something like this?

Tromboncino maybe? They get about 3 feet long. I can think of some other names, but this is a family friendly forum >:-) Slice it and pan fry it with some garlic in olive oil? That's what we do with our smaller zukes.

What you have isn't a zucchini, it is gourd. Specifically a lagenaria vulgaris (see link below). It also goes by many other common names related to a male or bull's genital appendage. The seed you planted had apparently been cross-pollinated the previous season as is common with many varieties of squash and gourds. It isn't considered. Dave

Is it edible? if we do eat it, will we alive to talk about it?
|
Sorry. "it isn't considered.." above should read it isn't considered edible except when harvested young and small ie. 6-8". As it grows it becomes very fibrous and tough. Dave
