orangish yellow canning jars

I bought some old canning jars at the thrift store today, several are orangish yellow glass. Canning jars were never made of uranium glass were they? I have another old jar that is pearlescent in color. Are they safe to use?

I don't think they would have any uranium in the glass composition.
The water in your area (or wherever the jars are from) may have iron, very common. Hard boiling could have stained the glass.
Same with the pearlescent one, calcium or other hard water deposit.

You might have old amber jars. Some were the wire bail jars and others used the zinc lids (which are interchangeable with today's two-piece lids). Reproduction bail jars were also made in the 1980's (Taiwan).

I don't know of any jars with uranium in the formula. There are some jars that were irradiated to change the color, but those are purple or a deep brown. However, irradiation is not the same as actual uranium in the glass.
