Homemade Pectin

I'm in the process of making some homemade pectin with all the excess apples that I have this year. I know it might not be as consistent, but I'm only giving this a try. This year I went thru the equivalent of 100 boxes of powdered pectin and 6 boxes of liquid.

Has anyone does this? My pectin/juice is reddish, I made it from yellow with red tinged and a few red apple, skins and all. Would that make the pectin reddish color. It looks nice, just not what the commercial liquid looks like.

Yes, it will be pink, don't worry, it won't tint the jelly.

Thanks, we are bored without all the jams, jellies and pickles already done. Now also starting back to sewing costumes for a 'harvest feast' that our area has every year. Finding period correct patterns are a pain, plus period correct materials. 1710-1790s colonial. Everything from underclothes (not much/none) to outer coats.

Good luck - we've got Tavern Night at our local Historical Society coming up again 11/2 - they asked me to donate some jams/jellies. Maybe only 3-4 this year. It's the 3rd year I've done it and even though I've set out business cards and had an interview in the local paper last year, I haven't gotten any business from it.

I don't do any of that, but I do have a facebook page now. Not much, just basically what I'm doing and what I would have at market each week. It has helped with the market side. Also have found many friends that I lost along the way.
