So I told myself to dig

and see if there might...just might...be a sweet potato or two under all those vines. I planted them late but the vines were beautiful and we had a hot growing season ...and guess what...I dug in just one spot and go a bucket full. Here's the first one out of the ground...It is now cooked and in the fridge waiting for my pie dough to thaw...I tasted it and it was wonderfully sweet and delicious. It was so large, I was afraid it would be stringy but I tasted it and it was wonderfully sweet and delicious

Life is so deliciously sweet just because of little things like this...

LOL, ruthie, that happened the first year I grew sweet potatoes. Dad kept telling me not to be disappointed, sweet potatoes didn't really grow in Michigan.

The vines were beautiful, though, and finally I dug and the first thing I brought up was one of those big ole' Georgia Jets. I picked it up, grinned and said "I thought sweet potatoes didn't grow in Michigan". Dad promptly replied "I never said that." LOL

Enjoy your harvest, I LOVE sweet potatoes.

Annie

Very nice!

Curious how deep they were? I yanked my vines out after the frost thinking I hadn't gotten anything, but I wondering if some are hiding down a little deeper...

That big one was close to the surface but I had to take the fork to get the rest of them...several were I'm guessing now but at least 6 inches deep ...
