| I actually cooked it last night and now I have it in the canner. I picked all the green tomatoes yesterday and there were so many little ones that I decided to make some relish....Most of them I just put on the sun porch to ripen but this year there were just a huge amount and some of them were small and perfect for relish.

| Chow Chow = Yum Yum. My grandmother used to make some really good Chow Chow using red tomatoes. I have tried and tried and have never been able to get close to the same flavor. About a year and a half ago I was in Southern England on business and I bought a jar of something called "Garden Relish" I think. It was in a little fish market in a small village. It looked home canned and just had the one label. I finally opened it about a month ago and was suprized to find it tasted just like my grandmothers red tomato chow chow. My grandmother was born and raised in East Texas as was my grandfather. But my grandfather's linage goes back to England. How far back I don't know. It got me to wondering if my grandmother could have gotten the recipe from her mother in law or perhaps whoever made the "Garden Relish" got their recipe from someone in south Texas. I guess I'll never know. Anywho, good luck with your Chow Chow. I didn't have enough fall toms to make a decent salad. LOL. |
