The NCHFP Pickled Green Tomato Relish recipe says to "coarsely grate or finely chop" the green tomatoes, peppers and onions. Which do you do, and what tool do you like to use to achieve the desired size? Any comments on flavor or overall satisfaction with this recipe? Thanks!

Neither. What I do with any relish is "grind" with the coarse grinder blade. We don't care for the texture or the poor level of flavor-blending on the tongue that results from either grating or fine chopping when it comes to a relish. But if you don't have a grinder or prefer not to grind then I'd vote for grating over chopping. Of course the texture when grated all depends on the size grater you use - the finer the better IMO. So basically it boils down to trying both to see which you prefer. Dave

Dave, Thank you! I am glad I asked some questions before I started on those green tomatoes. What size grinder plate do you use? I have a 1/4" and a 3/16" that came with my meat grinder attachment for my KA mixer.

Can't really say. Mine is electric and has 5 different blades but I don't know how they compare to inch sizes. All I can suggest is try some with the 1/4" and see how it looks. If too coarse try the other blade. It will be a personal preference either way. Dave
