Switching fruit in Jam recipe

| Is there any safety reason I cannot use a different fruit in a jam recipe? My freezer is full of lots of fruit from the summer since I wasn't able to can much.
So I have tons of blueberries and Rhubarb, and wanted to try and make jam from the two, but I can't find a recipe for that so I was just thinking of using a strawberry rhubarb recipe and sub blueberries for the strawberries.
I am willing to take the risk that the jam won't set or will not taste good, but I just want to make sure there isn't a safety issue. I am so paranoid about altering canning recipes.
It seems like there are lots of times I have just a small portion of some fruit or berry, not enough for a recipe, but enough to include in the total fruit volume and perhaps make an interesting combo.
or perhaps there is a "whatever you have" jam recipe?

| As far as I know, there's no safety issues with using different fruits in jelly/jam, unless they are high pH fruits like figs, persimmons, bananas, melons and things like that. As you're willing to risk runny jam or a combo that might not be visually pleasing or taste "wonderful", I'd say go for it and have fun experimenting. |

| Agree with malna that as long as you stick with acidic fruit, avoid any of the low acid fruits, and use an approved recipe you'll be fine as far as safety is concerned. Blueberries and rhubarb are no pH problem. Dave |

| Sure, one term for it is "Old Bachelor Jam". I don't know who came up with the name but it's a jam that mixes the bits-and-pieces. (The cautions have already been addressed.) Carol |

| Oh that's good. I am willing to take the risk of a runny or not so tasty combo. I know is always risk in fooling with a recipe, sometimes we are delighted, some times disappointed. I just bought a chunk of land next door to my yard, and in the deal have inherited a giant rhubarb plant that I have been coveting from afar for a few years. I will probably have to try all sorts of rhubarb combos. |

I wish I had more rhubarb gees I didn't grab enough before the frost hit it. When I put rhubarb in a jam I like to pulse it a bit in the food processor, makes for a nice texture. I have no set probelms with a Rhuberry Jam I make, that has 3 different berries and rhubarb. Have fun! |

| Well I have have a batch of blueberry rhubarb, plus three leftover strawberries, going now. This is the first thing I will have canned my my new gas stove! We did a kitchen remodel that is almost finished, just need to get the window and door trim up. I was canning outside on a propane burner all summer. |
