 o
refrigerate after opening question

Is there a website that tells how long food that has been canned can stay in the frig once opened? Couple of things I was curious about would be pickles, ketchup, elderberry syrup and jelly, salsa, and pizza sauce.

Thanks,
Amy

pickles, ketchup, elderberry syrup and jelly shouldn't be an issue unless you are talking about a period of years. They pretty much last a long time. The salsa and pizza sauce wouldn't last forever...it would probably get mold on it...

Check out this website for recommendations. Linda Lou posted it in the how long can you refrigerate... discussion further down the page here.

Here is a link that might be useful: Refrig times for foods

I agree with Ruthie even the salsa will go for a long time year and over depending on whats in it pasta sauce always goes in a month or so for me
lowering the fridge temp to just above freezing really helps also its nice to have a thermometer in there to help get it set

The more vinegar and / or sugar it has in it, the longer it will last.

If the syrup & jelly are bad, they will have turned to sugar or crystalized. I've had different pickels in my fridge for well over a year.

I agree, if the syrup or jelly are bad, they will have crystallized, molded or gotten a weird gummy texture.

Commercial catsup keeps nearly forever if it's refrigerated but it will ferment if left out on the counter. I didn't know this until it happened to me!

Pizza sauce and salsa? Is it commercial stuff with preservatives or homemade stuff? My homemade salsa will last several days but the commercial stuff lasts much longer. Ditto pizza sauce.

Pickles? Hey, they're....well....pickled. They last a long time in my refrigerator but they will get soft eventually.
