Opening a fermenter during fermentation

I can't help to laugh at myself. During this processes of learning how to ferment a mash I am learning a lot. Sometimes the hard way. My issues are, my weights used to hold down the mash were too heavy and sunk to the bottom. Then, the mash expanded so much that it blew the airlock out and I had super hot hot sauce mash everywhere! My hands are still burning. I had to remove the lid and remove the weights, leaving more room in the jar. My question is, by opening the jar did I ruin the fermentation? It has been a week since the fermentation was started.
