red mexican heather

I purchased a red mexican heather at Walmart. The tag has no other name than mexican heather. The red flowers are trumpet like with black on the outside tip. Checked the internet and saw a variety known as mouse ears in red but this is not the one. Talked with the nursery person but they had no idea. I cut off the large stem and placed it in peat using rooting hormone. I was visiting another city when I purchased, and wish I had bought more. Thought it would attract hummingbirds with the red trumpets. Would like to know the name of this variety, and also if my propagation menthod is correct. Hallngarden
