 o
winter kill

Since we on Cape Cod had such a devastating winter for our heaths and heathers, a lot of mine had severe winter kill. The thing that I find frustrating about growing these plants even though I love them, is that when they do get winter kill the plants don't die back from the tips of the branches. They seem to die back from the ground. So alot of my plants came out of the winter with lush green growth on the tips of branches, with the middles of the plants dead. I pruned the dead growth back, but does anyone know of anything else that can be done to revive the middle growth?Unfortunately it makes the plants look terrible.

I *think* the thing to do is prune the plant right down to the ground. However, I expect spring is probably the time for that.
