Can heather be grown indoors?

I just brought home a calluna vulgaris from the nursery, thinking it was a houseplant. Can I keep it as a houseplant, or should it be outdoors. At this late date I'm a bit concerned about putting it into the ground before winter. Anyone ever try one indoors? Thanks

Plants which typically grow well outdoors in temperate climates are not well-suited to be grown indoors. They need more light, higher humidity and a dormancy period that cannot be provided inside a house.
