Heather for hot summers

Looking for an evergreen shrub to plant as a foundation in front of a row of karl foerster feather reed grasses & provide color. Area is south facing, full sun and gets about 2 months of 90+ dry heat. Just put in a drip line, so could adjust the amount of water. Wondering if heather would do ok here and if so, what variety (one of the calluna vulgaris'?)
