Asparagus variety

| I garden on the west coast not far from San Jose. I'm thinking about putting in an asparagus bed this year. I prefer to use open pollinated varieties, though I do still want disease resistance. I don't strictly require heirlooms, but do require non-hybrid. I wonder if someone on this forum has some experience and could share information with me.
I have also posted my inquiry on the Vegetables forum.
Thanks for any information.

| I had a bed of Martha Washington that produced well for me for many years. Unfortunately, between woodchucks and my oldest son's mowing it is history. |
