I don't know if they'll grow, but they won't survive the winters most northern states. The hardiest sugarcane will withstand winters in zone 6, -10 degrees. Most others die long before it gets that cold.

    growseeds,
Saccharum arundinaceum would grow in more states than any other type. Mine came from Michigan. It is more like pampas grass than regular sugarcane, however. The heirloom varieties are Saccharum officinarum which is much less cold tolerant. It is grown as far North as Eastern North Carolina where it freezes to the ground in Winter and comes back from the ratoons the following Spring like it does in North Florida. In South Florida and Tropical climates it grows year round.
