Heirloom Perennial Books

We live in a 1820's farmhouse. We are working diligently on getting the gardens up to snuff, but i have decided i wanted to make the plants more age appropriate. Our style if definately "cottage or informal". I have searched the internet for books to help me with the specific plants i should use, but have not found any that specific. There are several that mention heritage perennial in passing, but not enough info to grab. Does anyone have any suggestions??

RE: Heirloom Perennial Books

The bible of old time flowers and gardens is "Old Time Gardens" by Alice Morse Earle. It was first published in 1901 and was recently reprinted in paperback. There's a lot of information about American plants and gardens in the era of your house. It has a lot of photos too.
