Ancient Indian Dry Bean

Posted by northerndawn Utah (My Page) on

Hi, my friend just gave me a dry bean that was supposedly found in a cave. I'm not sure yet if it was found in a Utah cave or just where. Apparently it was planted wherever the Indians traveled.

I would describe this bean as: A bit over 3/4 inch long and about 1/2 inch wide, very glossy and slick bean, dark brown (very similar in color to the red kidney I guess), black flecks, eye of bean is beige.

I'm going to plant this bean and see if it will grow.

Does anyone have an idea what the name of the bean could be or any info on it?

Can I post a photo on this forum, of the bean?

Thanks so much!

There are people on the Bean Forum who can give the story about this bean. I would like to answer but I doubt I would get it exactly right.

It sounds like one I just recently heard of. Check out the thread below.
