Pink Speckled Beans

A friend, who recently moved to the Smoky Mtns., picked up some beans at a farmer's market and wants help identifying them.

All I know, so far, is that they are green podded, but the _pods_ have pink speckles on them. She bought them pretty much filled out. Beans are large, almost like limas, but round rather than flat.

I'm thinking maybe they're a butterbean rather than a common bean, but hope somebody on the list is familiar with them.

RE: Pink Speckled Beans

I am not very good at this, but I was wondering if they are Cranberry Beans. Up in the mountains where I am from, they are called October Beans. Are these beans in season now?

Here is a link that might be useful: cranberry beans
