 o
Seminole Pumpkin growing conditions - PLEASE help!!

Posted by dancinglemons 7+ (My Page) on

Hello all,

I am just today planting seeds of the Seminole Pumpkin. I am growing it in an EarthBox with a tall trellis (7 feet tall 4 feet wide) I know the Seminole gets really large leaves and really long vines but I have no other option because these plants like full sun - or do they??

Has anyone grown Seminole (or any of their family) in dappled shade. I have a spot in my yard which has good hot sun from 8AM until 12noon. After 12 noon the area begins to shade and by 3PM it is all dappled shade - hot and bright but shade none the less. The Seminole people grew them under palm trees should I be able to grow them in the conditions described above?? I would lay down a black plastic sheet because I need a weed free area for the Seminole pumpkin. Is this possible??

Please respond if you are in Virginia or North Carolina. I am not in Florida and can probably not replicate conditions or suggestions given by Florida growers.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Cheers,
DL
