any difference between buttercup squash and burgess buttercup?

I have seen buttercup squash and buttercup burgess strain offered in the same catalog. So, I am assuming there is some difference.

The kinds of differences that would matter to me are

vine length

days to maturity

size of fruit

shape of fruit

color of fruit

origin - breeder

year developed

taste - sweet, slightly sweet or what ever

texture - stringy or smooth

ability to handle weather extremes (heat, drought)

I really like buttercup, but the buttercup I grew last year was a wimpy vine. Not long or strong. The kinds of squash that do well here are the long vines with larger leaves. It gets very hot here.

I was considering planting something that would taste like a buttercup but be a more vigorous vine.

I was thinking one or more of the following

Green Hokkaido

warren turban

Whangaparoa Crown

yocahama - this is a moschata so I was wondering if it tasted like a butternut. I hate butternut squash

pumpkin jap

marina di chioggia

Argentine primitive pumpkin - supposed to be ancestor of the buttercups.

jarrahdale

Anyone have ideas of a vinier buttercup type squash?

The old Burgess Buutercup is usually a fair performer, good vine with decent yield. Very susceptible to SVB tho. Lots of vendors just sell a generic buttercup now. Unless the grower has been careful and selective, The burgess can lose a lot of it qualities. The Japanese Kabocha s are in the same group, so you might want to try one of those.

Here is a link that might be useful: buttercup
