How do I know Moon and Stars is Ripe First time Watermelon grower

I grew some Blacktail Mountain--they are about 12 pounds and just getting ripe. A lot of little seeds.

I am growing Moon and Stars (Yellow fleshed). These suckers are HUGE, near 30 lbs now. HOw can I tell when they are ripe? My greatest fear is cutting into a 30 lb. watermelon and finding out it's not ripe. Both were planted May 20.

Take a look over on the Vegetables forum. There are some folk giving really good advice on this very question. I'm growing this one, and have for some years, but I have to admit that the ones giving advice over there know this subject better than do I.
