can a charantais melon just pop up from nowhere?

I've let a couple of mystery vines grow this year in my garden. One turned out to be a cantelope which I've never grown but have eaten, so figure maybe from the compost pile. Another melon I have never heard of, eaten, or grown looks like a charantais melon which I found online. Could this be from birds transplanting seeds or could it be a hybrid of the cantelope? I haven't opened one up yet but it has a strong melon smell. Would love to hear from any melon growers out there what your thoughts are. Thanks

It is possible that it survived composting. The usual explanation is past plantings with fruit drop or having gone to seed. The tomatoes are major volunteers with frequent fruit drop missed during fall clean-up.

Several varieties resemble the Charentais. If a hybrid from the compost you may have one of the parent varieties. Compare the flesh color, taste and rind to identified varieties for a possible determination.
